CYLINDER RIM LOCKS
Although most people call them ‘Yale’ locks, this is not the correct terminology - calling this type of lock a ‘Yale’ is like calling every car you see a ‘Ford’ or every vacuum cleaner a ‘Hoover’
Cylinder rim locks are mounted on the surface of the inside of the door and have a connecting cylinder that is fitted into the door with a keyhole on the outside. It is important to select the right size of lock for your door. Cylinder rim locks are available in a range of backset sizes, 40mm, 50mm and 60mm (some other sizes used to be available, but are now mostly obsolete). The backset size is the distance between the edge of the door and the centre of the keyhole. Before buying a replacement lock check the size that you will need. For new installations it is recommended that you use the longest backset that will still allow the lock body to fit comfortably on the door style.
