When buying home security remember to consider the value of what you are protecting - a few extra pounds spent now may well save a fortune in increased insurance premiums (at the best) or a total loss of your personal property (at worst).
Always buy the best level of security you can afford. The Police recommend that all external doors should be secured with locks that have been certified to BS3621 (the kite-mark standard to burglar resistancy in locks) and many insurance companies will not pay out on a claim unless locks to this standard have been fitted and used.
One of the best methods of identifying weak points in your home security is to look at your home through the eyes of a burglar. If you were locked out, how would you get in? If you can do it, so can a burglar - probably quicker, easier and quieter than you can.
Most burglaries are committed when the home is empty - invest in time switches to turn lights and radios on and off to give the impression that the property is occupied.
When you move home ALWAYS change the locks as soon as possible - you never know how many people have the old keys.
